Can you identify a movie in which the plot involves a thief
transferring his loot from a room in one building to a room in another
using a rope stretched between the two buildings, one possibly being a
hotel across the street, near the end of the movie. A detective finds
a clue in a note left by the thief, which the detective initially
thinks is a telephone number (XXX-2YYY), but later realizes it
describes what room numbers the thief is stealing from and moving the
loot to (XXX-to-YYY). |

Are you certain that this was a movie, not a TV show? An episide of
the old "Kojak" show called "Two Four Six For Two Hundred" involved
exactly the plot you've described.

Please excuse my misspelling of 'episode' above.
Here's a bit about the Kojak storyline:
"A few months ago I was watching a late-night rerun of Kojak. The
title to the episode was, believe it or not 246 4 200. During the
episode it was suspected that it might be a phone number. Kojak
(sucking the Tootsie-Roll Pop) dialed the number and reported 'nope,
Dial-a-Prayer'. I wonder if the screenwriter had the same stunt
pulled on him? BTW, the significance of the numbers in the teleplay
were hotel room numbers."

This is very likely correct. TV Tome (now TV.com) doesn't have a plot
description for this episode, but one of the guest stars (Robert
Loggia) also sounds right.
