The answer to this question depends on which source you find more
credible.

According to Star Tech's David Wichner, DeCSS is pronounced "DEE-SIS."

Star Tech: David Wichner

However, such diverse sources as Velvet Donk e-zine, USA Today, and
The New York Times say it is pronounced "DEE-SEE-ESS-ESS" (or
"DEE-C-S-S," which amounts to the same thing, with each of the last
three letters being sounded separately.)

Velvet Donk 2000

USA Today: Tech

New York Times: Amy Harmon
http://www.nytimes.com/library/tech/00/07/biztech/articles/31rite.html

It appears that the weight of the evidence is with "DEE-SEE-ESS-ESS,"
particularly since a columnist in the prestigious New York Times has
endorsed this pronunciation.

eleutheria,

Ah, so you're trying to take some "liberties" with words? This is
appropriate for someone whose screen name means "freedom!"

If you're looking to make a pun out of DeCSS, there's always "CEASE
AND DEE-SISS!" ;)

Thanks much. I was hoping there would be an alternate "phonetic"
pronounciation (i.e. "Decks"), but I'll just have to make my puns some
other way...
