I need to find someone in another state.  I have her full name,
driver's license number and social security number.  There are dozens
of "people search" services on the internet and all of them promise
results for a fee.  I don't mind paying, but how do I choose the most
reliable, least expensive service?

First, you'll need to check the license status of the investigator you
select, in the state the missing person lives in. Private
Investigation is a licensed vocation in virtually, if not all, of the
50 states.  Anyone holding a current license is probably legit.  You
can also check with the BBB Online...

Referrals from these associations can be trusted.

Call around. I found an Investigator for a friend recently.  I used
the phone book at first, but found who we ultimately selected on the
Internet, using the city name and the phrase "private investigator"
--with the quotes.  I was quoted between $50.00 and $125.00 an hour
for the same service. All licensed, all sounded fine on the phone. We
selected the $50.00 an hour choice and have not been disappointed.

What is your reason for wanting to find her?  It has to be legitimate
and reasonable or no one will help you (protection against stalkers
and identity thieves).  Your best bet is to order a Social Security
Number Trace and that can be purchased for anywhere from $20 to $50.
