My husband and I are moving from Vence in the South of France to Kyiv,
the capital of Ukraine, in September or October. We are British
citizens with French residency. We have started our new jobs (in the
computer industry, engineering department of a startup) already
working from home, and are only renting our current house, so in the
meantime we are effectively free to work from anywhere that fulfills
the requirements below. My question is, is there a holiday home or
short let house that fulfills them?
A bit more about us. We enjoy walking with the dogs and swimming with
them. We love good wine, cooking and eating out, but we also love
remote, wild places where you can't hear cars or civilization. We are
keen photographers. We both have Mac powerbooks which we use for work
and pleasure.
Requirements
- Must have broadband internet
- Available for all of August, ideally much of September too
- We have two big dogs. The house must be in an area with plenty of
wild, unpeopled, open spaces to walk them (think Scotland not Cote
d'Azur). Isolation is good, but nice restaurants in driving distance
is good too.
- The house should have a garden (enclosed ideally)
- Sleeps at least 2 in a double bed (more than one bedroom is OK but not needed)
- The house should have hard floors, not too many soft furnishings,
and be newly decorated (I have house dust allergies).
- Costs less than ?3000 per month - but we will consider a fantastic
house that costs more than this.
-Ideally the house would be on the way to Kyiv, not in the opposite
direction, although we do fancy Scandanavia or North Germany and would
not rule them out. The UK is a good candidate too (because we're a bit
homesick)
- We must be able to drive to the house from France. This rules out
anywhere outside Europe. Minimising border crossings is an advantage.
A fantastic house
- Is a trendy beach hut, with simple Scandinavian decor, all alone on
a wild beach. Or an old building, converted in the modern style. With
space, with light. Clean. It's not a twee cottage filled with
nick-nacks or somewhere where everything is plastic and there are
little signs telling you what to do.
- It's something you'd find in Wallpaper magazine, not "Cottages For
Old People Monthly".
- It's near somewhere we can swim with the dogs (sea, lake or river,
not swimming pool) |
