I am looking for a place to rent a 2001 or 2002 BMW M3 with the SMG
transmission option for a day. Must be willing to rent to a
22-year-old, surcharge OK. I would prefer something on the west coast,
as I'm located in the San Francisco Bay Area, but given the price of a
discount round-trip air ticket in relation to the typical daily rental
rate for this car, I would probably be willing to fly anywhere in the
continental US. The closer the better, though.

FYI, the two semi-local leads I was able to find on my own -- Beverly
Hills Rent-A-Car and City Rent-A-Car in SF, no longer have M3s.

Places don't rent to under 25, sorry.

Why don't you try a BMW place local
to you. The ones here on the west coast
will sometimes rent units at rather
high sums of cash. All you need is
money.

That 'under 25' bit wasn't clear.
Most places that would have a car
like a BMW will not consider someone
under 25 for rental. Even those with
the surcharge that allows 21-24 yr olds
to rent.

This is opposed to a BMW dealership
that thinks they might gain a sale
out of the rental. Maybe even just
a highline car dealership would
consider the rental.

Good luck in parting with the
dead presidents.

If that's the case, then so be it, but I've seen a lot of "exotic car"
rental places with nothing less interesting than a BMW who state that
the absolute minimum rental age is 18 or 21. I expect to have to pay a
surcharge, but I think that if there is someone renting one of these
cars, I have a decent shot at being eligible. This is kind of outside
of the Hertz/Enterprise/Dollar realm, where 25 is the rule.

BTW, even finding an M3 at a BMW dealership around here is tricky.

I was reading the answer clouseau
gave to a question about driveaways...
I wonder if that could help you.
Find someone that needs a beemer

Kinda unlikely; the M3 isn't a common car.

I did find a place outside of Boston that has an SMG M3 for rent for
only $150 for a weekday 5pm-8am. However, they do have a hard 25-year
age limit. ;)
