Howdy jackheine-ga,

It might help researchers to know which model of Compaq computer
that you own. There should be a label (Prosignia, etc.) and model
number (sometimes on the back) on the computer. Thanks!

Yes sir. First of all USB 2.0 i think you can install it with you
computer. Second of all make sure that there are slots to install the
usb ports on you MOtherboard. Most computers usually support usb 1 or
usb 1.1 mostaly the old ones. Now the new computer can support 2.0. i
would recomend that you take you computer to a computer store near you
and ask them to check if it is compatable with usb 2.0 beucase i have
usb 2.0 in 1.5 ghz so it might work in you computer just try it or get
another companys usb 2.0.

Almost definitely you can. USB 2.0 cards are typically sold as PCI
cards with 4 USB ports on them. If you're comfortable upgrading the
computer yourself, first make sure it has PCI slots available. If so,
you can buy a USB 2.0 PCI card for about $20 and install it yourself.
If you're not comfortable, you can likely pay a company to do it for
you for a $50 or so installation fee (guessing from minimal
experience). The manual provided with the card should be sufficient in
getting you started with installing drivers if needed, as well as
troubleshooting if it becomes an issue.
