Please tell me what you know about Santa Cruz, CA, artist, Wiliam
Lemos (1861-1942) who painted (possibly in the Plein Air style)from a
booth at the Santa Cruz boardwalk. We have a "mountain/lake/guy in a
boat fishing" painting of his and are trying to learn more about him
and the painting's value. We know that the painting hung in the lobby
if the Bank of Italy, Walnut creek Branch up until 1940 when they
changed their name to Bank of America.

Hi jaysdream-ga:

There isn't a wealth of information about William Lemos out there
(other than what you already know). However, if the painting you have
is of Mt. Shasta, then I've a couple of figures for a possible value.

Is it Mt. Shasta? Here's links to some other Mt. Shasta images - does
the mountain in your picture look similar?

Also, what are the dimensions of your painting?

Thanks.

The painting is 3 feet high by 5 feet wide. It is not of Shasta but
just a generic mountain scene I think. I did find more about the
painter in a book titled, Artists in California by E. M. Hughes but
only a paragraph.
