Good morning tybop-ga and thank you for the question.

In the case of ARTHUR ANDERSEN LLP v. UNITED STATES, Cheif Justice
William Rehnquist delivered the opinion for a unanimous Court on May
31, 2005.

William Rehnquist was affirmed as Associate Justice by a 68-26 Senate
vote on October 21, 1971 and was nominated to the Supreme Court by
President Richard Nixon, taking his seat as an Associate Justice on
Jan. 7, 1972.

He was affirmed as Chief Justice by a 65-33 vote on Sept. 25, 1986 and
nominated as Chief Justice by President Ronald Reagan, assuming that
office on September 26, 1986.

Chief Justice William Rehnquist is now the longest serving Chief
Justice since Melville Fuller, who died in office in 1910.

I would like to clarify that the case cited above, Arthur Andersen LLP
v. United States, was heard in the United States Court Of Appeals For
The Fifth Circuit.

Sorry for not providing that in the original answer!

WHO was the judge residing on The FiFth Ciruit Court of Appeals?;not
Rehnquist of the Supreme Court!----The big cheese- the head honcho of
the Appellate Court;who flipped the conviction!

Hello again tybop-ga,

Being that it was a unanimous decision by the supreme court, there is
no "Big Cheese" that flipped the decision. Unanimous means that they
all agreed on the decision. The Supreme Court heard this case in the
Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, it was not 2 seperate decisions and
courts.

Also, if it helps, Antonin Scalia is the judge "Allotted" to the 5th District.

Hmmm? The district court jury convicted, the circuit court
"affirmed" the conviction, and then the Supreme Court reversed the
court of appeals (circuit court) decision and remanded it. It seems
to me that the Supreme Court - "unanimously" - "flipped the
conviction", to use tybop-ga's words. Rehnquist only delivered the
opinion, so his person is not significant. Besides, he is of an age
that would let one expect that neither his appointment in 1972 nor his
present situation would make him subject to political interests or
influence.
