Dear piorun,

Maurice Levis was born in 1860 in the French capital Paris. He was a
student of Harpgnies, Jules Lefebre and Pierre Billet at the Salon of
Paris. In 1866, he had an exhibition at the Salon displaying various
landscape paintings. From 1888 on, Levis was a member of the Society
of French Artists, by which he was awarded an honorary mention in
1895, a third-place medal in 1896, and a golden first-place medal in
1927. He died in 1940.

I don't think the artist born in 1860 had an exhibition in 1866.
Perhaps the exhibition was in 1886.
