Dear China Doll,

There are several ways to do it. None of them really ensures a 100%
success, but here are sites and societies dealing with
Chinese-Australian heritage. These sites and societies might be able
to provide you either information on your ancestors or means to find
that information:

La Trobe University has a database with Chinese-Australian newspapers,
documentation and other things that might help you. You might want to
pay them a visit:
Chinese Heritage of Australian Federation
<http://www.chaf.lib.latrobe.edu.au/>

Another resource is CHINESE AUSTRALIAN FAMILY HISTORIANS OF VICTORIA,
which could be contacted here:
 CAFHOV, c/o Chinese Museum, 22 Cohen Place, Melbourne. VIC 3000, or
by email at cafhov@ yahoo.com.au
The Chinese Museum homepage:

A similar project is:
Mapping Chinese Heritage in NSW
<http://www.migrationheritage.nsw.gov.au/projects/14.html>

The Australasian Association of Genealogists and Record Agents Inc
lists this person who might be able to investigate (for a fee) for
you:
Mrs Faye M YOUNG, M Litt (Public History), BA, Dip FHS, FSAG, APHA, PO
Box 206 Sylvania Southgate NSW 2224 Tel/Fax: (02) 9528 4941. Email
address: FAYEYOUNG@bigpond.com
(G) Australia. (RA) All Sydney/ NSW repositories with interstate links
(SI) CONVICTS, Biographies, Family Histories, Picture Research,
Missing persons, Land records, CHINESE Australian Research.

The government of Australia has published the following:
Tracking the Dragon: a guide for finding and assessing Chinese
Australian heritage places
<http://www.ahc.gov.au/publications/chineseheritage/>

Golden Thread
<http://amol.org.au/goldenthreads/resources/> - while this site cannot
teach you about your own ancestors (probably), it provides links to
others sites that might teach you more about Chinese-Australian
history,including some useful genealogy sites.

Another useful site is:
 Chinese Australian Historical Society Inc.
