Why has my Canon i350 printer slowed down?

Request for Question Clarification by crabcakes-ga on 09 Jul 2005 14:20 PDT
Hi Roger998,

Can you tell us a bit more? How much ahs it slowed down?

Have you changed the size of file you are sending to it? For
example, if you have a newer digital camera, with more megapixels,
creating very large files, this may slow it down.

Have you gotten a newer camera? Using a different kind of paper?

More information will allow us to better resarch your problem.

Regards, Crabcakes

crabcakes is most likely correct. Printers do print more slowly if
they are printing more complex pages. Ink jet printers may also print
slower than normally if the computer is under heavy load (use), since
ink jets rely on the computer to process the page. The Canon i350 is
noted as a slower printer, so you can't expect too much speed from the
unit.

Thanks crabcakes.
Printing now at one ppm. in black and white.

I do not use a camera, usually I am just printing text from web pages.

Same paper used as always,so no change there.

Would reloading the driver help?

Assuming you are printing from Internet Explorer, if you go to
File->Page Setup, then Printer, Properties, it should show the options
selected for printing.

Is the "Quality Type" setting correct (ie. "Text" if you are printing
text only), and "Plain Paper", if that is what you are using. If you
click on advanced, is "High Speed" checked (uses bi-directional
printing). I don't know whether turning off "Edge Smoothing" would
make it faster.

Also, as appleacolyte-ga has said, if you have many programs/processes
running at the same or if the page is more complex it might take more
time.

Thanks all, problem now solved.

The print head slide bar had a thin film of dried ink on it which was
causing the head to stick to it and slow down. I wiped the slide clean
and regreased the drive gears then hey presto the speed came back.
