What are the best baseball stadiums for kids to visit? (e.g., we just went to the Phillies new park which had many things set up specifically for kids... Met's do some things with their Fanfest on weekends... the Yankees are great to see, but don't make a special effort for kids in any way so I wouldn't include them...) |

KeithC -- Actually, among baseball fans it's generally agreed that the minor league teams do the best job of attracting families and keeping kids interested with run-the-bases competitions; launching free tee shirts and hot dogs into the stands; having areas behind the grandstands to play catch; and generally a promotion per inning. It depends on the type of experience you are looking to bring your kids too. I recommend the O's Stadium in Baltimore. They have theme nights, some often themed for children, The players usually make themselves avalible for autographs before the game starts and after the game. Not to mention they have a goofy mascot that really gets the children involved in the game. Also, it is only a few blocks from downtown baltimore. Your children could spend some time at port discovery (children's museum) or the espn zone! children usually love these activites and if you plan the day out right...You could have a great full day with the kids. |

Here's a great summary of major league ballparks - with ratings on Seat Comfort, Hot Dogs, Concessions, Signature Food, Beer, Bathrooms, Scoreboard, P.A. System, Fun Stuff, Souvenirs, Tickets, Exterior, Interior, Access, Ushers, Trading Up, Fan Knowledge, 7th Inning Stretch, Local Scene, Wild Card, Total rating. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stadiums Based on the overall ratings... which I'd agree with (having been to at least 75% of these parks) PNC Park (Pittsburgh) tops the list, followed by SBC Park (San Francisco), Camden Yards (Baltimore) and Coors Field (Denver). For "Fun Stuff" - which would be for ths kids, the parks with highest score are: PNC Park (Pitt), Coors Field (Denver), Edison Field (Anaheim), Comerica Park (Detroit), The Ballpark in Arlington, Miller Park (Milwaukee), Pro Player Stadium (Miami), Bank One Ballpark (Phoenix), SBC Park (SF), Fenway Park (Boston), Jacobs Field (Cleveland), and Turner Field (Atlanta). Furthermore, each link has more stats on Editor's comments and explanations for each rating. Enjoy the ballparks! |
