Dear cindyq,

Are you sure about the spelling? While Niepenaught has indeed a
certain German feeling, the -naught part is not possible in that
language. If the name is recorded in a handwritten document, it might
prove helpful if you put a scanned  image of that part online.

Niepenaught is an uncertain spelling. This is word of mouth from my
great-grandmother about the birth place of her mother, written down by
mother who only speaks English. My great-grandmother's father was born
in Arad, Hungary (now Arad, Romania), which is in the Transylvania
region. I would assume that my great-great-grandmother would have been
born in the general area. Because the borders have changed so
frequently during the last 200 years, the name of the town may have
changed three or four or more times since my great-great-grandmother's
birth.
