Someone told me that the body expends 100 calories warming up eight ounces of cold water to body temperature. Is this true? IF not, what's the actual calorie figure? |

Dear PCVentures, No, it is not true. It is true, that drinking ice-cold water would burn more calories than drinking tepid water. However, the difference is negligible. 8 ounces of ice-cold water (1 degre celsius) would cause the body to expend about 9 calories. If the water is not as cold (and it usually isn't), even fewer calories would be burned. You can read more about it at : How Stuff Works: "Does drinking ice water burn calories?" <http://science.howstuffworks.com/question447.htm> (I apologise for such a short answer, but the explanation given by HowStuffWorks is so great and so full, that no additional information is needed here, and naturally, of copyright reasons, I'd prefer not quote the whole article). I hope this answers your question. Please contact me if you need any clarification on this answer, before you rate it. |
