I need recommendations for content management software. I need the content to be stored online, rather than on any one desktop, so that different people around the world can access it. The background is this: I collect news stories about certain topics. I need to classify them into categories for archiving. Each paragraph within a story might go into a different category. And when I say ?category?, it could be multiple categories. For example, take this story: Paragraph 1: The history of Armenia. Paragraph 2: A story about the last Armenian conflict. Paragraph 3: Armenians flee to Lebanon. Paragraph 4: Other destinations for Armenians. Paragraph 5: War in Lebanon. I would split it as follows: Paragraph 1: The history of Armenia. File this paragraph under ?Armenia?. Paragraph 2: A story about the last Armenian conflict. File this paragraph under ?War?; and under ?Armenia?. Paragraph 3: Armenians flee to Lebanon. File this paragraph under ?Armenia?; under ?Lebanon?; and under ?Travel?. Paragraph 4: Other destinations for Armenians. File this paragraph under ?Travel?. Paragraph 5: War in Lebanon. File this paragraph under ?War?; and under ?Lebanon?. The idea is that then rather than trawl through my archives of thousands of stories, I can just bring up all clippings in the category ?War? or ?Travel?. Any ideas? Thank you. | |

I am very familiar with Content Management Systems, (CMS). You'll want to find something that is: * Powered by PHP, or ASP. * Utilizes an SQL Database, preferably MySQL. There are many free products that do this, and allow you to categorize stories, (articles). I have yet to hear of a CMS that categorizes paragraphs -- only whole articles. My (all free) recommendations: * PHPNuke http://phpnuke.org/ * Post Nuke http://www.postnuke.com * Mambo CMS http://www.mamboserver.com/ * Nucleus CMS http://nucleuscms.org/ Also find a list of CMS software at Wikipedia: * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_content_management_systems Let me know if this information helps. I am not a Google researcher -- I just thought I would lend a hand and save you $50. If you do need help, you might want to check out http://www.geekvalley.com for CMS related discussion. |

I should also add this: Most CMS software comes with a built in search function. Even if you are not able to categorize paragraphs, you may still be able to type "War" or "Armenia" into the search box, and pull up the stories. |

The question expired on Aug. 10. Sorry I waited too long, to see if someone else will pick it up. If you would repost the question, I will provide an answer. I still need to add: the more you can tell us about what you know allready, (like do you know what PHP is, do you run a website now, did you looked at any CMS, ..) the easier it is to provide an answer which will match your requirements. |
