I'm going to Bates next year. Find me a parking spot within a 5
minute walk from campus!! It's a nice car so a locked garage would be
a bonus.

Hi Cyberwave,

I've put out numerous calls to parking garages and spaces. Would
a walk of "less than a mile" from campus work? I'm afraid that is the
closest garage I have found so far.

I've also called several people who rent spaces, all of whom were
not home. (I left messages!)

You don't mention cost. Do you have a limit as to how much you
are willing to pay? Are you opposed to parking ON campus?

     Thank you for your clarification!

     Sincerely, Crabcakes

Hello Cyberwave3,

I have 2 prime choices and two less than prime spots, for parking
near Bates College, Lewiston, Maine. However, you must hurry and
reserve a spot now. I saw numerous students seeking parking spots in
the Lewiston online newspaper!

(I chose to answer before you posted a clarification, because I can
see the urgency! Spaces are being snatched up by the moment!)

Prime Spots:
=============
207-784-6063, ask for Sherry. They have 2 spots, less than 5 minutes
(2 blocks) from campus. The rent is $70 per month, and is in a rather
secluded and safe area. Call ASAP as they are filling up fast. (She
did say you can?t have a HUGE car though)

Reny Properties ? 207-783-2199 (Spaces on Main / Russell Sts.) Has
spaces 3-5 minutes from campus. $200 for the semester.

I am still waiting for returned messages, but I doubt if they will
call, as spots are being taken quickly!

LEss than Prime
===============
These choices are in case all of the above fails. They are
approximately one mile from campus:

Ash and Canal Street Parking Garage
207-786-4686 $45.00 a month and $5.00 for a parking card pass.

Municipal Parking Lot, near Chopsticks
207- 782-6321 $48.00 a month and $5.00 for a parking card pass. The $5
is refundable when you return it at the end of the year. I spoke to
the a man who worked in the lot, who told me they have no security
problems or car damage problems.

Alternates, courtesy of Bates College Parking Department are:

·Ask for Jeff ? 207-786-4445 (Spaces off Robinson Gdns.)
·Ask for Meg - 207-776-1900 (Spaces on Towle St.)
·Ask for Charlie ? 207- 784-4304 (Spaces on Robinson Gdns.)

Good luck in school! Call for your space ASAP!

Hi again Cyberwave3,

You may contact this very friendly woman about parking On campus:
Phyllis Wisher
Parking Enforcement Coordinator
786-6254

I had no idea how tight parking at Bates was! With 500 spaces allotted
to over 1,600 students, it is not likely you'll get a spot at this
late date. But call Ms. Wisher right away! I had wondered why you
expressly asked for off-campus parking, but now I understand about the
tough parking situation.

Parking Availability on Bates' Campus

There are currently approximately 774 allocated parking spaces on
campus to accommodate all student, employee and visitor vehicles, plus
90 additional "open" spaces which require no permit stickers for
parking. Of the 774 allocated parking spaces, 500 are assigned for
student use (to accommodate the 1600 +/- students on campus), 233 are
for staff/faculty use (for the 800 +/- employees), and 41 are reserved
for visitors. These parking spaces are maintained at considerable
expense to the college in terms of land use, repaving, patching,
salting/sanding, plowing, sweeping, striping, drainage, etc."
