Hi ianmsd,
After several hours of research, the following is what I was able to
locate regarding UK employment figures. Please let me know if this
suffices as an answer to your question.
As of April 2005, the total number of people employed in the UK is 28.578 million.
"The latest estimates for February to April 2005 show the working age
employment rate fell 0.1 percentage points over the quarter to 74.8%.
This decline was driven by men, down 0.2 percentage points to 79.2%,
whilst women remained unchanged at 70.1%. The total employment level
rose 11,000 to 28.578 million. This was driven by female employment
levels rising 16,000 to 13.142 million.
The number of employees increased by 10,000 to 24.731 million. In
contrast self-employment declined 3,000 to 3.623 million. The most
recent trend estimates show that the trend for the working age
employment rate has levelled off and the trend for the total
employment level continues to increase."
