I am going to visit Vietnam. I will be arriving in Saigon and staying
in the vicinity for 5 days. What are the names of great resorts with
single social life, beautiful beaches, and cultural embracement(
balance of touristy and seeing the real vietnam)? i am looking for a
place to visit for 1/2 the time I am there that is not Saigon?

The tourism industry in Vietnam is still relatively undeveloped and
there are only a handful of what might be considered 'great' beach
resorts. The social life at these tends to be somewhat subdued so you
may need to seek out the backpacker haunts in the nearby towns for
some fun.

Given your time constraints I would suggest that you fly from Saigon
to Danang (US$120 return). In Danang you can stay at the Furama Resort
which is situated on the famous 'China Beach'.

From Danang you can make a day trip to Hue which contains some of the
most impressive of Vietnam's ancient palaces and royal tombs. Highly
recommended.

Another option for you to consider would be to fly up to Nha Trang and
spend a couple of days at the Ana Mandara Resort.

V?ng Tàu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V?ng_Tàu) is is a popular beach
resort that is only a short drive from Sài Gòn. It is very popular
with domestic tourists, so it's very developed. Nha Trang, on the
other hand, is about 7 hour's drive from Sài Gòn, has a very beautiful
beach. It is fairly undeveloped, but the water is torquoise blue, and
great for snorkeling.
