Question ID: 542895
My computer crashed last week. I put in a new hard drive and attached
the old hard drive to my computer with an external usb hard drive
enclosure. I can not find my outlook pst files inorder to import them
into my new hard drive. I have searched for *.pst and included {show
hidden files and folders) but no luck. Also have looked in local
settings---outlook and no data there. Do you have any idea where all
my outlook data is?

In Windows 2000, and, I would bet, XP, outlook.pst is found
in the C:\Windows\ directory, and the backup is found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\archive.pst

I would expect to find them in similar locations in WIN98.

Let me know where this takes you...

I did not pay you to guess where it is in 98, I asked if you knew
where it is. If you have the answer please let me know. If you do not
have the answer do not charge me or give me a refund.

It is usually helpful to know what version of Outlook and what version
of operating system you are using.

dbolour, winenovicesf is correct, more detail is helpful.

Remember too that Outlook (e.g. Outlook 2002, part of Office XP,
chargeable) is different than Outlook Express (free inside specially
marked boxes of IE).
Outlook Express? uses a different filename.

My Outlook 2002 stores its ".PST" in:

C:\Documents and Settings\xyz\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

If the crash you experienced corrupted the file system, simply
searching or browsing for the .pst files may be futile.

Since you have been able to mount the old drive and Windows recognized
it, I'd recommend using a recovery program like GetDataBack from
Runtime software.

http://www.runtime.org/

They offer a free trial version. Just select the correct file system
(FAT or NTFS). I've used this in the past for what I thought was
unrecoverable data. As long as the hard drive can spin up, chances are
you can get it back with this software.

Best of luck getting your data back.
