Hello bj1333,

As noted in the disclaimer below, answers and comments on Google
Answers are not intended to substitute for informed professional legal
advice. If you need such advice, you should contact a attorney.

According to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS):
"To apply for lawful permanent resident status, you must submit a
separate Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or
Adjust Status ...."

"Frequently Asked Questions About Asylum: When Can I Apply To Become a
Lawful Permanent Resident?"

See also:

"Asylee or Refugee Seeking Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) Status"

Unfortunately, there seems to be a large backlog for processing these
applications from asylees.

In summary, it appears from the foregoing information that you can
send the Form I-485, but not expect an interview or green card in the
near future. (Again, this is not a professional legal opinion.) As
indicated in the last page I've cited, you can contact the National
Customer Service Center at 800-375-5283 with questions about these
issues. See also:
