Question ID: 542952
Looking for an image bank of pictures of retail products sold in
supermarkets in the UK (e.g. bottles of Coca Cola, various types of
cheese / milk / yogurts / meat / bread / eggs / preservations /
icecreams / etc) which can be used for the creation of a shopping
catalog. The image-bank can be either free or a commercial one which
charges reasonable price for each picture.

I have located the following. Will it meet your needs and suffice as an Answer?

"Content and Imagery Solutions for retailers and resellers" Brandbank
http://www.brandbank.com/ukprod_retail02.htm (this company's website
states their database has UK product images).

"Gladson Advertising Image Network (GAIN)" Gladson Interactive
http://www.gladson.com/Secondarypages/ID_AD.htm (I called this company
and they said their image database included European products).

Thanks!

Somehow the Gladson link was dropped. Here it is:

http://www.gladson.com/Secondarypages/ID_AD.htm. The samples are just
by UPC, but the company says its database includes European products.

Thanks for the prompt response.
It is unclear from these two sites whether they are supplying the
required information. I could not find in Gladson's site any direct
refernce to any U.K. product, and in Brandbank it is unclear what is
exactly the type, format and scope of the information they are
supplying. I emailed both, describing my exact needs and asking for
more information. I hope to get their answers within few days, and
then I'll be able to decide if your advice can be considered as
answer.
Thanks again
Amir

I have found two additional sources indicating that Brandbank would be
a source of the images you are seeking.

"Product images and pack data for branded and own label products are
originated, managed and delivered to Sainsbury?s to You by Brandbank
 www.mybrandbank.com"

"By using Brandbank as our sole source of images and data we are
assured of consistency and completeness."

"Sainsbury's to You Website" Sainsbury's
http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/sid/STY/Brandbank.htm

"Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV - News), provider of Enterprise
Content Management (ECM) solutions for business, and Brandbank, the
UK's premier supplier of product images and data to the retail
e-commerce community, today announced a partnership in which Brandbank
will provide Interwoven's Digital Asset Management (DAM) solution as a
hosted offering to its over 900 retail clients."

"As the UK's leading provider of product data and images to the retail
grocery sector, Brandbank is the standard for managing product images
and data online, enabling customers to speed time to market and
improve sales. Global brands rely on Brandbank to ensure that
up-to-date images and accurate product details are seen on the right
retail websites, catalogues and marketing materials. Current retail
and manufacturing customers that rely on Brandbank include Tesco,
Heinz, Asda, Sainsbury's, Pedigree Masterfoods, and Procter & Gamble."

"Interwoven Partners With Brandbank to Power Hosted Digital Asset
Management Solution, Enabling Over 900 Global Retailers to More
Effectively Manage Their Brands" Interwoven Inc. (June 6, 2005)

I am afraid that my screen had not refreshed to reflect your response
to my clarification request before I posted my answer. Sorry about
that.

I agree that the Brandbank website could do a better job of describing
their services, but the additional information I discovered and
provided in my answer indicate that they will be able to provide you
with the images you are seeking. The Gladson representative I spoke
to told me their database included European products, although their
website had no information about them.

I am glad you have contacted both. I would be very surprised if at
least one of them cannot get you the images you need. If you run into
trouble, please request clarification, and I will try to find you
another source.

I apologize that your clarification response came to my attention
after I had posted my answer.

Sincerely,

Wonko

From the additional information you just placed it seems that
Brandbank are hosting the required information. However, it is unclear
yet if these images are for sale to the public or they are for use
only by those who asked for them (e.g. Tesco, Sainsbury's etc). If
this information is for sale (which I hope to know within few days
when getting their answer to my email) I'll consider it as an answer -
and a very good and accurate one.

Amir
