Question ID: 543026
I am in search of old (pre-1963), and even better (pre-1923) books
about raising chickens and chicken coops. I saw this quote on a website
the other day, which sent me on my hunt: I want the title of this
book specifically.

"I recently came across a rare manuscript that contains 100 (Yep, ONE
HUNDRED, no typos) award winning chicken coop plans complete with all
measurements, cross sectional diagrams and step-by-step instructions
on how to easily make them by yourself.

All these 100 award-winning plans were designed by successful poultry
keepers (that by the way, some of which happened to be top architects)
that you can use for making your own chicken coop (from total
scratch), that will match any flock size and local climate, and which
you can easily make using only basic building skills and common,
affordable materials you can find anywhere."

I would like to know what the above book is - specifically. Plus, I
am interested in any other books on the related topic and where I
might be able to find them to buy them. I would like pre-1963 books,
and I prefer pre-1923 books especially.

Thanks so much for your help.

Hello macaspeer,

They don't create titles like this anymore:

"The poultry architect. An illustrated book of plans and
specifications for building poultry houses, chicken coops, shipping
coops, exhibition coops, fences, nest boxes, roosts, etc., with near
one hundred designs."
H.A. Kuhns
Atlanta, Ga., Frankling Prtg. and Pub. Co., 1894

The New York Public Library appears to be a good source for this work.
Its catalog states that it both the 1894 edition and the 3d edition
from 1898.

The Library of Congress also has a copy. WorldCat does not indicate
any other copies.

You can find these works in the New York Public Library, Library of
Congress, and (if you have access to it, perhaps through a university
library) WorldCat FirstSearch by doing a title search for: poultry
architect.

"Basic Search"
Library of Congress Online Catalog

As a bonus, you'll find entries for other pre-1923 books on "poultry architecture":

"Poultry architecture, a practical guide for construction of poultry
houses, coops and yards"
George Burnap Fiske
New York, Orange Judd company, 1902 [or 1905]

"Poultry architecture : how to build handsome and convenient fowl
houses durably and economically"
H. H. Stoddard
Hartford, Conn. : H.S. Stoddard, 1879
[or Hartford : [s.n.], 1882, c1879]

A search on Google for "poultry architecture" (in contrast to "poultry
architect") will lead to some useful results.

An interlibrary loan specialist at your local library should be able
to help you to determine your options for borrowing (or obtaining
copies from) these works. Also, you can currently find four copies of
the Fiske work on BookFinder (http://www.bookfinder.com), and one copy
on eBay, by searching on those sites for: poultry architecture.

Search strategy --

Searched on library catalogs noted above, BookFinder, and eBay for:

chicken coops
poultry architect
poultry architecture

Searched on Google for:

poultry architect
poultry architecture
