Hi,
I'm trying to find as much info as I can on a bulgarian borm
artist/sculptor named Assen Peikov. He supposedly did works of
subjects like Hitler and Tito. He did a small bass-relief bronze of my
stepfather during WWII in Rome. There supposedly was an Article about
him in either Look or Life Mags in the '40s. I've found a few
references to him and his some of his work, but nothing with any
"meat". A Biography, list of works (web pages ffrom which I might
print pictures of his work), awards or recognition recieved, etc. As
much of that as I can get. I'm not sure how to price this. If the info
is actually there to be had, $100 or more would be fine. OTOH, I
wouldn't want to spend more than $50 to find I couldn't add much to
this episode of my stepfather's history in Rome during WWII.

I have found a brief, mainly biographical article on this sculptor. I
doubt that it's worth even close to $50. But if nothing else better
comes along, I could post it as an answer, perhaps at a lower price.

I've also found a brief reference to the sculptor in a 1954 article
from a publication similar to Look and Life. But perhaps you've come
across this article already.

I did run across a mention of Piekov in a 1954 Time Archived article,
It was a mention only, The article seemed to be mostlr about an area
or neighborhood in Rome. Perhaps the same area my stepdad became lost
in the 1940's and stumbled upon Piekov.
I'd be happy to pay any reasonable price for solid info. My step-dad
passed 2 months ago and for some reason my mom has somewhat fixated on
finding information on the sculptor that did a bronze bass relief of
her husband, my step-father. Some time ago my parents had a
conversation with someone that appearently was quite familiar with the
sculptor or at least the name and some of his work. I've found many
references in Italian on the web but only to art books or in passing
refernce in articles about other artists.

The 1954 article I found was indeed from Time magazine. That leaves
the short biographical article. If you're interested in it, you can
set the price at what you think is reasonable and let me know.

Having tried some alternate spellings, I believe I've found enough
infromation to satisfy.

Hello Hal,

I have found a resource that includes about 20 newspaper articles on
Assen Peikov, covering a period from 1948-1961. I did not see any
earlier references to him or his work.

He apparently did a fair amount of sculpture work for Hollywood, and
some of the mentions are fairly brief, and sometimes include photos,
such as this one:

=====
HER SHOULDERS TOO SQUARE?

Screen aactress Ava Gardner wore a slip while posing for this statue
in Rome, Italy. Sculpture Assen Peikov, putting finishing touches on
the statue, said Miss Gardner is "very nice, and cooperative, although
a little square in the shoulders..."
=====

The article includes a grainy picture of Peikov, admiring a very
scantily-clad statue of Ava Gardner.

As I said, there are about 20 such articles. I can direct you to
them, and you can access them yourself (after subscribing to the
service for a modest monthly charge).

I'm afraid I can't excerpt them all here at the current price of your
question, as that would involve more work than I can justify.

Let me know if you'd like me to post the source as an answer to you question.

Cheers,

pafalafa-ga

Just a side note: The original Bulgarian spelling of his name is "????
??????" [Cyrillic font needed for correct display]. The first name is
also transliterated as Asen, the last name can be found as Peykov and
Peikoff, depending on the translitaration system used.

The giant statue of leonardo Da Vinci that welcome travelers at
Fiumicino airport in Rome was made by Assen Peikov
