Question ID: 543488
I would like a list of the best resources on the web for knitting - I
am very interested in ways to improve my knitting, free patterns and
ways to interact with other knitters either online or offline. I'm
only interested in hand knitting, not machine knitting.

The histroy of knitting and any other interesting information would be
great. Equipment and yarn suppliers would be great as well - If there
are any knitting related affiliate programs - I would be very keen to
learn of these as well.

Hello joebeaven,

Thank you for your interesting question; knitting is one of my
hobbies, so I especially enjoyed going through my favorite links for
you, as well as searching out new, different links to recommend.

Happy knitting!

MEGA SITE

Once again, I have to recommend About.com as the very best overall
site for knitting ( http://www.knitting.about.com/ ) The left hand
side menu will take you to a terrific forum for meeting other, helpful
knitters, a wide variety of free patterns, how tos and tutorials, a
stitch library, suppliers, and much more.

TUTORIALS & TIPS

Knitting has become so popular, there are a wide variety of sites on
the Internet that offer basic knitting how tos. One of the best can be
found at Vogue ( http://www.vogueknitting.com/tech/knit/knit.html )

Learn to Knit and Crochet also offers basic instructions (
http://www.learntoknit.com/home.html ), as well as beginner patterns.

The Yarn Co ( http://www.theyarnco.com/instruction.php ) also offers
good instructions.

For instructions on knitting with circular needles, be sure to see AZ
( http://www.az.com/~andrade/knit/circular.html )

Knitting Help ( http://www.knittinghelp.com/ ) offers not only
beginning how tos, but also advanced tutorials. You?ll also discover
free patterns and a forum to meet other knitters at this site.

FREE PATTERNS

Other good places for free knitting patterns include Knit Net (
http://www.knitnet.com/ ) an online knitting magazine.

Free Easy Knitting Patterns (
http://hometown.aol.com/kriswrite/FreeEasyKnittingPatterns.html )
offers super-easy patterns.

Lion Brand Yarn ( http://www.lionbrand.com/ ) offers some great free
patterns, too, as well as terrific yarn and general knitting supplies.

Knit And ( http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/allpatterns.htm ) also
has a nice selection of patterns, free for the taking.

Also check out Wool Works ( http://www.woolworks.org/patterns.html )

Actually, while you?re at it, see the Free Knitting Patterns Webring (
http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=knitring;action=index ) which has
links to many sites that offer free knitting patterns.

COMMUNITIES

In addition to the forums already mentioned, do take a peek at The
Knitter?s Review forum (
http://knittersreview.com/forum/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=5800 )

The Knitter?s Guild of America also has a very good forum (
http://www.tkga.com/messageboard.html ), and the rest of their website
is useful, too.

HISTORY

There are a number of sites offering histories of knitting, also. I
would start with Alita Designs (
http://www.alitadesigns.com/knitting.php ) and Answers.com (
http://www.answers.com/topic/history-of-knitting )

Also look at Knit Knitting (
http://knitknitting.com/knitknitting/knittinghistory.htm ) and
Swaledale ( http://knitknitting.com/knitknitting/knittinghistory.htm )

SUPPLIES

Knit Picks ( http://www.knitpicks.com/ ) is a good place to start
looking for knitting supplies.

I also recommend Knit Wits ( http://www.knitwitts.com/ ) and
Patternworks ( http://www.patternworks.com/ )

AFFILIATE PROGRAMS

Again, I don?t believe there is an affiliate program specifically for
knitting related items. But again, Amazon.com?s affiliate program
might be a good choice
(http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html/ref=gw1_mm_2/103-8319960-2919819/?node=3435371
) as Amazon carries knitting books, magazines, and supplies.
