I read a book called "The World's Biggest Secrets" (or something like
that) and they analyzed the Colonel's chicken and found flour, pepper,
salt and MSG (monosodium glutamate, a flavor enhancer). No "11 secret
herbs and spices."

And who do you think published that book?........ :)

A Kentucky woman who bought the colonel's old house found an old
recipe book in the basement. It contained a recipe for fried chicken
with precisely 11 herbs and spices. KFC sued to make her give up the
book, then declared that it wasn't the real KFC recipe.

Quick, name eleven spices! Even including salt and pepper, and then
nine available locally in Kentucky ... Leaving out, of course, those
entirely inappropriate to KF chicken.

OK, think about it. When you eat KFC do you really taste, e.g.,
oregano, garlic, onion powder, thyme, basil, sage, rosemary, etc? No.
You taste flour, salt and pepper. Perhaps they have the other secret
ingredients in there in such miniscule amounts that you cannot taste
them but still enough so they can use it in their marketing under FTC
and FDA guidelines, but common sense tells me that the book is
right--that the predominant flavors in KFC are salt, pepper, flour and
MSG. Look at page 20 of "Big Secrets" by William Poundstone if you
don't believe me.
