This song "Here she comes again" by The Stands sounds like a cover to
me (you can listen to it here....
http://www.contactmusic.com/new/home.nsf/webpages/thestandsx02x02x04
I cannot find any indication on line that it is a cover and all
indications show that it is an original song but it is making me crazy
so please can someone confirm it for me either way. Also, if it is
not a cover any comments on who it does sound like would be gratefully
received (the lyrics are what make it seem familiar to me I think.
They sound "Elvis Costello-y" to me). Thank you

Hi kooth,

The lyrics to the song, along with a comment by Howie Payne, are found
on The Stands' official US website, and their label's official
website:

"Lyrics: Here She Comes Again"
The Stands [US site]
http://www.the-stands.com/usa/hereshecomesagain.htm

"Lyrics: Here She Comes Again"
Echo
http://www.echo.co.uk/thestands/hereshecomesagain.htm

I presume that an official, reputable site would not copy another
lyricist's full lyrics without attribution. Otherwise, the company
and label would risk inviting a claim of copyright infringement.

Moreover, these lyrics do not appear elsewhere on the Web -- even on
the many sites that are apparently unconcerned about copyright issues.

I conclude that this song is not a cover (regardless of the degree
that it may be influenced by prior songs as mentioned in the
comments).

Velvet Underground 'Here She Comes' is similar in chorus.

Anything by Teenage Fanclub would probably come a lot closer.
Probably not a cover, just very unorginal and derivative. Boo.

Not a cover though - just quite similar!

Thanks people. I know it is very derivative (heavens knows what their
publicity people were thinking green-lighting the terrible video that
accompanies it - it just pounds home the whole Byrds/60's British
sound thing that The La's have already done), its just I heard it on
the radio coverage of the Guilfest festival and it was one of those
immediately so very familiar tracks that I was convinced it must be a
cover. As I say, the lyrics are the part of the track that seemed
most reminiscent of another singer/songwriter. Thanks again

I am happy to accept an answer from anyone who closes off the
question? But obviously - any other comments welcome.

Thanks

The chorus of the song is just like the chorus from THE CARS song
"she's my best friend's girl."
I think thats why it songs like a cover. Check the song out on itunes.
