I have an Epson PowerLite 8300i. I want to schedule the projector to
power on at 6:00 am and off at 6:00 pm over my network. The projector
has a static IP address.

The manual for controling the projector through a terminal interface
can be found at Epson's website,
http://files.support.epson.com/pdf/pl600p/pl600pcm.pdf. I would
prefer the task to be scheduled on my Mac Mini.

You could save the script as an application, and I could schedule it
with Cronnix (http://www.abstracture.de/projects-en/cronnix). I
prefer not to schedule programs with iCal, because I do not want to
junk up my calendar.

I entered the IP accordingly.

I scheduled it with Cronnix. I was not sure if I needed to check
"Prepend "usr/bin/open"", so I tried it once with it checked and once
without it checked.

The end result was still the same. Nothing happened.

i would be happy to attempt to create a script for you, but i need to
know what operating system the mini is running, is it 10.3 or 10.4?
they both have different scheduling engines and require different
scripts.

unfortunately, there seems to be a bug in 10.4 which prevents it from
running scheduled scripts, however, i can create an on and off script
that you can make iCal run at 6am and 6pm, is that OK?

I have created two shell scripts for you, an ON script and an OFF
script, that telnet to the projector, and then give the command to
power on, and power off respectedly, but, i cannot attach the files
here, so i have uploaded them to my server, you can get them at
http://www.b-i2i.com/scripts.zip

When you get the two files, place them in any directory that you wish,
and open both of them up in textedit and enter the IP address of the
projector between the two "" where i have stated.

Then, open Cronnix and do a test schedule (i can't test the scripts
unfortunately!) by clicking "new" then clicking on the "simple" tab
and checking all the boxes down the left handside except for minute,
and make the script run in a couple of minutes by putting the minutes
about 5 minutes in advance.

In the command box, press browse, and then locate the on.sh or off.sh
script and press "insert" then finish the crontab by pressing "New"
then "Save"

Now, wait until the allocated time, and see if the projector turns on
or off (depending on which script you have chosen to test) and then go
and create the real crontab at 6am and 6pm for the ON and OFF scripts.

hope this helps (and works!)
