Hello,

I am looking for information on drawing/creating Anime. I would like a
list of the very best resources on the web. I am extremely interested
in information that can be used (not copyrighted) as a mini-course.
Any video material would be awesome!!

I'm not looking for club type stuff. I want to be able to understand
how to create Anime from scratch. A breif history of Manga and Anime
would be great also. Hottest Artists, software programs, and even the
suppliers of these types of drawing programs would be welcome info. If
there are any affiliate programs related to creating Anime, I would
like to find out about these, too.

Greetings Full_Metal,

It may be extremely difficult for a Researcher to find you
non-copyrighted material since most everything on the web is
copyrighted, even when the copyright is not registered with the United
States Copyright Office nor the copyright notice (or "c" in circle) is
displayed on a site.

There is Fair Use in copyright (
http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html ) but that type of may only be
used when no resale is present (see http://www.truthout.org for
example of correct Fair Use).

"The distinction between ?fair use? and infringement may be unclear
and not easily defined. There is no specific number of words, lines,
or notes that may safely be taken without permission. Acknowledging
the source of the copyrighted material does not substitute for
obtaining permission."
http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html

Please read the entire section at the above link to acquaint yourself
with proper copyright usage.

Even link lists --just lists of sites-- are copyright protected as an
original form, and they may not be used exactly as found without
permission of the domain owner.

Best regards,
journalist-ga

I'm not looking for copywritten material. I am looking for the best
resources on the web for getting started drawing Manga and creating
Anime. I'm sure there are lot's of software products and "free"
lessons available. I would like a list of these sites, etc.

Hello Full_metal-ga,
Have you seen the "How to Draw Manga" series of books? A lot of
instruction books and book series on drawing Manga/anime have
proliferated ever since the anime explosion of recent years and
perhaps you might want to pick up a few of these books. I personally
own the first two books of the "Manga Techniques" series (its home
website is www.deleter.com), mainly because they're the least
expensive series written by Japanese (there are some manga art
instruction books by Americans, but I notice they use some distinctly
American styles of art). But when it comes to manga art and art
instruction websites, I know quite a bit, being an aspiring manga
artist myself. How many websites would you consider enough for you?

Sorry for any misunderstanding, Full_Metal. I read your statement "I
am extremely interested in information that can be used (not
copyrighted) as a mini-course" to mean that you were interested in
only NON-copyrighted material. I was responding to let you know that
it might be difficult to locate only NON-copyrighted materials.

Best regards,
journalist-ga

No Worries, I'd still like to have a list of the best sites that teach "how to"
draw anime/manga. The rest of my question is ok, yes?

Hello Full_metal,
I have scoured the Internet for all the most popular sites on manga
drawing instruction and tutorials, and as you can see, there are so
many.
I do hope you also know the difference - but if you do, this is for
others' benefit - "manga" is the word for Japanese cartoon art in
print form, and "anime" applies to the moving picture form (TV and
movies). So when you say, "how to draw manga" or "how to draw anime,"
it's basically the same thing.

When it comes to manga history, personally I have read that today's
styles are influenced by Astro Boy creator Ozamu Tezuka, with the
deformed bodies and large eyes. He was after all one of the first
visible manga artists we know today, so his style was sure to have
influenced a lot of other artists.

How come only 1/2 of these links work???? Page not Found????

Hello Full_metal-ga,
Thanks for following up. Apparently, some URLs I mentioned above seem
to include the dash in the line that comes after them, like in:

Mangaschool - Index:
http://mangaschool.com/smf/
- A forum for aspiring artists to exchange ideas. It's fresh from a
resurrection though (old posts have been lost).

Note the dash before 'A forum', which get included in the URL as:

http://mangaschool.com/smf/-

And thus errors are caused.

I'll post a new list some of the links, and I'll check if they would work:

Full_metal-ga,
It's OK now, the links I posted anew work. If ever some don't work
because of the dash, please delete the dash at the end of the web
address so it will become correct. Thank you.

This means I'll have to scrap out that dash in the next answers.
