I wish to know if a relative of mine fathered a child in the past year
but do not know how to go about doing it or if it is possible to do it.
Can anyone tell me how to go about finding this type of information??

Short of asking your relatives directly, this would likely be a
difficult thing to uncover.

However, the types of public records available depends, in great deal,
on where your relative lives. Can you give us a city and state (or
province)?

DO NOT post an actual address. Just the city and state will do fine.

Thanks.

The Vital Records Office for Oregon is here:

800 NE Oregon Street
Room 205
Portland, OR
(503) 731-4108

You may want to give them a call or stop on by. It's probably
possible for them to search birth records based on the father's name,
but frankly, I don't think they would do this for anyone other than
the police.

Let me know how it goes.

If you can't find out from relatives (easiest way) I would start with
the local newspaper, birth announcements. It would be easier if you
had the possible Mothers name. Keep in mind that the only real
certainty (besides a DNA test) is MATernity. We ALL know who are
Mother is, and Paternity is never as certain. Imagine a Father
demanding a DNA test to determine if the woman that carried his child
was the actual Mother...
