How can I remove aphid excrement from the windshield of my pickup? I
have tried steel wood, SOS pads, WD40, soaked windshild in vegetable
oil, and scraped with a razor blade. None worked. I have read that
aphid excrement is like varnish. Also have read that the excrement is
mostly sugar. I am hesitate to use any thing caustic such as diluted
drano. When driving into the sun it is about imposible to see through
the windshild making driving dangerious. |

Hi mrmacii,
It sounds like you'll have to purchase some bug and tar remover from
an auto shop. Here are a few, but see what's available locally (make
sure it's safe to use on glass) and ask the guy behind the counter for
a recommendation.

Hummer, Thanks for your interest in my problem with aphid excrement.
Your suggestions for bug and tar removal is good for bugs and tar.
What aphids cannot digest is no relation to bugs or tar. I have no
trouble with either bugs or tar. That excrement is, like I said,
mostly sugar and has been refered to as varnish. I am going to try a
steam cleaner if I can be assured steam will not damage the rubber
seal and the wiper blades. Keep your thinking cap on - I need help.
Driving into the sun the excrement defuses the light and I can hardly
see the road. Thanks again for your interest. MrMacII

Ok, MrMacII, how about a Paint & Varnish Remover?
"ZARŪ Paint and Varnish Remover (Super Strong Gel) is a
non-flammable, semi-paste paint and varnish remover that quickly
removes all conventional finishes, including polyurethane, from a
variety of surfaces. The product requires no solvents or neutralizers
after removal. Its heavy consistency permits excellent cutting action
on vertical surfaces.
ZARŪ Paint and Varnish Remover is harmless to wood, plaster, metal and
glass surfaces and nylon or natural bristle brushes."

Hummer, I could not find the varnish remover you recommended locally.
I looked at Home Depot, Lowes, and wal-mart. The varnish remover I
looked at did not say they were save to use on glass. In fact they
said not to use it on fiber glass. After that I went to an auto
repair shop and talked to the owner and his assistant. They showed me
that the window was etched, pitted, and could not be cleaned in any
way. I went by my insurance company and they agreed and will replace
the windshild. Therefore I am withdrawing the question as unanswered.
Thank you for your interest. MrMacII
