I would like to download the software that allows me to use the
scanner part of my HP Laserjet 1220 printer.  I cannot find a download
on the HP website, although you can get a CD from them with it on. 
Where can I dowload it from?

No this is not what I am after, I already have the basic driver.  The
printer has an optional scanner attachment on the top of it that with
the HP provided Scanjet software you can doe stuff like scan pages in
Word or PDF files.

These drivers only allow you to do printing.

I did some more search and according to HP the scanner driver is only
available on a CD. This is what the HP website
(http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=bpl11038&locale=en_US&docId=75901)
says.

"Due to licensing restrictions and size, the entire software for HP
LaserJet products with copying, scanning, and faxing functionality
will not be available from the Web. A print-only solution will be
available for download. The CDs for the 1200, 1220 and 3200 series
printers were rolled with drivers certified for Windows XP and are
currently available from HP Distribution."

I do understand that you perhaps have already found this information
and this answer is still not what you are looking for.
