Dear Stephen H.,
A picture of the statue in front of the District Building could be
found here http://www.dcwatch.com/photos/district.jpg
Shepherd's wife was called Mary G. Shepherd. She is (probably) buried
alongside her husband in Rock Creek Cemetery, DC. It is said about
their residence that "Shepherd dubbed his large country home " Bleak
House," after a Dickens novel he and his wife were reading at the time
of their home's construction"
There's very little information about her online besides that.
However, some interesting dosuments about her and her husband are
listed here - http://www2.h-net.msu.edu/~dclist/shepherd.html and more
information about Shepherd could be found here

I think that answered both your questions, with the limited
information available. However, if you need any clarifications, please
ask and I'll be glad to provide them before you rate the question. My
search strategy was:
All of Shepherd's known names: "alexander Shepherd" , "boss Shepherd",
"Alexander Robey" and words such as <wife>, <statue>, and also in
addition to his wife's name ("Mary G. Shepherd", which produced very
little). |
