According to Forestry acronyms, CLS stands for Canadian Lumber Standards. http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfd/library/documents/acronyms/c.htm Is this the answer you're looking for? Thanks, Bobbie7 |

Hi - thanks Bobbie - I'm not sure - I'm in London so I don't think cls stands for 'Canadian...' but I could be wrong! :-) |

Here they say that European Whitewood is known as CLS Timber. "We are looking to establish a business relationship with Lithuanian Timber Exporters of European Whitewood, otherwise known as CLS Timber." http://www.export-import.lt/proppage1.php?uid=93&lang=en |

Howdy jonnypop-ga, Despite it being "Canadian," I think bobbie7-ga is correct in that CLS appears to stand for Canadian Lumber Standards (or Standard or Sizes). From the Leisure Deck (UK) web site. http://www.leisuredeck.co.uk/new.html "All timber deck boards should be specified with 'pencil' radii to all corners (i.e Canadian Lumber Standard)." From the ebuild (UK) web site. http://www.ebuild.co.uk/forums/messages/778/3624.html?1094134204 "Does anybody know what CLS stands for (as in 100x50mm CLS)? ... canadian lumber standard" It takes a free registration for the following reference, but it appears to be a definitive source. From the askTRADA ("All you need to know about timber") UK web site on surfaced timber. http://www.trada.co.uk/techinfo/asset/send/918/content/wis2-3_37May05/ar01s04.html "BS EN 1313-1 and BS EN 336 include structural softwood surfaced to sizes which originated in North America as imperial dimensions. Known as CLS or ALS (Canadian or American Lumber Sizes), softwood is now widely produced to these sizes in the UK and in Europe. The timber has rounded arrises not exceeding 3 mm radius."
