Hi Blucken-ga and thanks for your question.
I located the number of units of wooden entry doors sold in a recent
article Residential Window Sales to Maintain Healthy Levels by the
American Architectural Manufacturers Association and the Window and
Door Manufacturers Association from June/July 2002.
Here is an excerpt from that article:
Volumes in residential entry, passage, and closet doors increased in
2001 and are predicted to climb steadily through 2005 (Figure 1). For
entry doors, the study notes that over two-thirds of the 12.5 million
units sold in 2001 were steel, with wood doors maintaining a 22
percent share. Fiberglass doors made up 10 percent of entry doors sold
last year, the report states. As in patio doors, fiberglass is
predicted to increase its market share in entry doors to 15 percent by
2005.

So according to the above, (22% of 12,500,000), 2,750,000 units of
wooden entry doors were sold in 2001.
Figure 1 of the above article shows a detailed graph of door units
sold in five different categories from 1999 to 2005.
