Question ID: 545014
could someone please do some comparison research for me, based on my criteria?

I want to purchase a 37" HDTV LCD TV set.
I don't want a separate "box" of any kind ... it needs to have everything it needs
to show HDTV as part of the TV set itself.

I care about:
* QUALITY of picture and sound
* RELIABILITY ... my life is too intense for extra hassle of things not working
* EASE OF USE

given this, what would your research recommend for me?

thanks!
mike

Hello mikeginnyc-ga,

I?ve looked up and read about 15 different HDTV/LCD available, and I
have came up with the one I think would be perfect to meet your needs.

Sharp LC-37D7U 37" LCD TV

The picture is referred to as fantastic, enviable, and stunning. It
has a full 720p resolution (it scales anything higher, such as 1080i
down to the highest the Sharp will go) and a 16:9 ratio. They say it
meets the deep black color of Plasma in an LCD.

It has many inputs(?two composite, three coaxial (one cable and two
antenna), one HDMI, one RGB PC, and a pair of FireWire terminals that
can be used to connect compatible D-VHS, Blu-ray, and hard drive
recorders. There's also an A/V output with S-Video, along with one
optical digital audio output?)

Also, it has numerous color adjustments. The set?s out of the box
color was reviewed as ?ok? needing a few adjustments, but better than
many of the sets out there. You can also get the LC-37D5U model that
has side instead of bottom speakers. The unit rotates on its stand but
does not tilt, and is wall mountable.

All three reviewers on Amazon gave it 5 out of 5 stars. Cnet.com has
it rated as the #1 LCD/HDTV available after reviewing 10 of different
manufactures and sizes. However, it is suggested at the price you?d
pay for this one, that Plasma might be a better option.

The remote is large and easy to hold/use, however some of the buttons
are under a flip panel.

Some of the reviewers say it?s been great; a few have had service
issues. However, it seems that the service issues that may happen are
balanced out by the quality of this TV. I would not hesitate, if I
were in the market, to buy this product after reading the reviews.
However, for what I?d be paying, I?d be comparing it to plasma
beforehand.

I found it starting at 2775.95 ranging up to 4299.99.

actually, i'm very pleased with the response and will close it out soon.
but i do have a question for the future. it seemed to take a very long
time for this question to receive attention. i love Google Answers
and use it frequently ... but I'm not always comfortable with the
categorization choices or the decisions I make within them.

QUESTION: is there a better spot within the GA framework
where I might have placed this question for faster response???

THX.

Hi again,

Actually, you picked the best catergory in my opinion. Sometimes
questions are answered quickly, sometimes it takes a while, sometimes
they're not answered. I can tell you that I and my fellow researchers
do the best we can to answer every question as quickly as we can while
providing good information. I hope this helps.

mikeginnyc-ga rated this answer:5 out of 5 stars and gave an additional tip of: $10.00
this may be the first time i've ever had several weeks go by before a
question was answered ... but the answer definitely lived up to the
high standards I've come to expect and enjoy from Google Answers. My
thanks to the researcher. This answer matches what a compulsively
thorough techie friend of mine dug up in the meantime ... and the
Google reinforcement is valuable to me. Only thing that stops me from
ACTING on the result is a news story I just saw about 42-45" LCD HDTV
prices dropping considerably this fall ... so I'm back to mulling.
But my question was answered thoroughly and clearly, and I appreciate
it.
