I'm planning to buy some softwares for a friend's business and some
for myself. After reading some spams in my mailbox on cheap softwares,
I decided to save money by buying online.
I first collected about 10 URLs for such discount software Sites,
including the ones who sent me spams. Then I read an article stating
that many of them sell illegal copies, so I checked Whois and
TraceRoute for the URLs to filter out those located outside USA. The
remaining 4 sites all sell Adobe CS2 for $1000+ and OEM versions of
Win XP; one even claims that the OEM WinXP will be accompanied by a
piece of free, qualified hardware---which is indeed the legal
requirement for buying/selling OEM Windows.
Now the question: later I found yet another website, very similar to
the other 4 that I consider legitimate. This site sells OEM XP Pro for
<$150, BUT it also offers FULL retail version of XP Pro for <$180.
Maybe I'm uninformed, but I don't know how they can legally sell a
full version of WinXP at such a low price. (They don't seem to have
education license softwares on the site.) It would be great if that
deal is legal; I would definitely buy a Full version WinXP if it's
only $30 more than the OEM version. But I need more research before
clicking that Checkout button.
Thanks a lot! |
