Hello, the FDA requires food labels displaying key pieces of nutrition
information. The Center for Food Safety has lots of requirements at:
www.cfsan.fda.gov. However, the FDA does not do the analysis of food
items, it just sets the standards.
I am looking for an easily searchable database of commercial food
items and their basic nutrition facts. I'm not looking for nutritional
information on generic items such as cashews or milk.
Examples of what I'm hoping for would be: Tropicana Orange Juice,
Celeste Pizza, Oreo Cookies. If it has chain restaurant foods that
would be even better: McDonalds Cobb Salad (example).
Nutrition facts would include calories, fat, fiber, and protein.
If there is no searchable database available, I'd also go for a very
structured dataset. Not useful are text based lists (unstructured
data).
Thanks for any help. |
