We read everywhere, including in the Economist, about the world-wide bubble in housing prices that may burst any time. How can an investor profit from the bursting of this bubble? Short what shares, buy long what, etc.? On which stock-market? Which are risky plays, and more concervative ones, if there is such a thing? |

If you're thinking of speculating on the housing bubble bursting, there's no such thing as low-risk. It's all high risk. Especially when you're shorting a stock. And even more so if you plan to do it on margin. Some big names include KB Home (ticker: KBH), Pulte (ticker: PHM) and Toll Brothers (ticker: TOL), but beware, you will see the charts of these stocks have run up almost exponentially in the past 52-weeks, but with major brokerages continually raising price targets, there might be more room left to go, and you, the short-seller might face huge losses. Don't forget, once you're burnt, it's like being stuck in quicksand. You only need to lose 50% of your capital in one bet. But need to earn 100% just to breakeven again. With that, happy speculating.
