Jay1Jay -- It appears to have happened between 1895 when the Compagnie des Installations Maritimes de Bruges was formed and 1911. Here's the earlier reference: http://www.hugovandermolen.nl/scripophily/scripofemale.php And here's the 1911 Encyclopedia, which refers extensively to Zeebrugge: http://www.1911encyclopedia.org/ Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |

Maybe this pins down the date more closely, indicating that the plans to establish a seeport for Bruge were completed in 1895 and the harbor in 1905: http://www.zeebruggeport.be/content.asp?p=25 The History page for the previous period, confirms that the place of the harbor was "Heist" (= Heyst. "Sur Mer" = "on/by the sea" can be consider to be self-evident in this context.). http://www.zeebruggeport.be/content.asp?p=182 |
