Request for Question Clarification by

Hi dmullard-ga,
I've just spoken by telephone with someone of my acquaintance who
works in T-Mobile customer service, and is very familiar with the
company, their products, and related ones. Here's what he told me:
1) First, if you haven't already, he suggested you check the TOS (fine
print) on that Amazon offer. According to him, the offers there are
for NEW customers ONLY. The fine print reads, "*Offer exclusively
available to customers activating a new line of service on a one (1)
or two (2) year contract with the featured carrier. Credit approval
may be required. Other restrictions and conditions apply. Offers may
vary and is only valid in the United States." See here:

So the only way you could take advantage of this offer would be to
cancel your existing service and try to sign up as a new customer, but
unless you used a different number and/or name, you would not be
allowed to. But if you did those things, you should know they are
considered fraud, and T-Mobile (as well as the other cell phone
companies) are pretty good at discovering it. If you were to be caught
trying to engage in this type of fraud, the best that could happen
would be that you'd be denied participation in the offer or an account
altogether; the worse would be prosecution for fraud.
However, I was also informed that T-Mobile has many attractive upgrade
offers for existing customers, and my acquaintance suggested you call
customer service at 1-800-937-8997 to inquire about those. He was sure
you'd be able to find something you liked!
2) As for equipment, his personal recommendations are Nokia and
Samsung products for best reception. However, he said that Motorola
has more 3rd party software available, which might interest you since
you mentioned Mac compatibility.
In that regard, if data services are important to you, he suggested
you look into the Blackberry suite of products, particularly the
Blackberry 7100T or 7290 models. The software bundled with them is for
PC only. But for around $40 you can purchase Mac-compatible software
for the device, which is available online at http://www.blackberry.com
However, you should know that T-Mobile does NOT support 3rd party
software for either phones or Blackberry devices, and installing it
could affect your warranty if anything did go wrong. You'd need to be
sure to ask about that.
If you feel this information answers your question, please let me know
and I'll be happy to post it in the answer box. If not, then perhaps
another Researcher can come up with better information for you.
Best wishes, and good luck with your new phone!
Cheers,
