All the major rental companies *should* be willing to rent a motorcar to any over 25, such as yourself, providing that you have a valid UK driver's license, the "international driver's license" endorsement, a valid credit card, and really good ID like a passport. By valid I mean it is *not* a learner's permit requiring that you be accompanied by a "fully licensed" friend. The International license is just a piece of paper you pick up from an Automobile Association *before* you leave for a small fee. There is no testing. The British Automobile Association (AA) might have a website. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile_Association The most acceptable credit card should be Visa or Mastercard. A gold card of either issuer *usually includes car rental insurance for up to 30 consecutive days and will save you at least CDN$15 per day in insurance. NOBODY will rent without a credit card upon which they can obtain an *up-front* Authorization for the expected amount. Renting by the week is 7 days for the roughly the price of 5.5 days. Some of the majors are: Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and Thrify. Unlike in the UK, you can rent vehicles and actually take them across an international border, like into the USA, but you must declare your intention at vehicle acquisition-time. If you want to arrive in style, consider a rental company that supplies the Chrysler 300. http://www.chrysler.com/300/ Happy Motoring. |

Thanks for the Info grthumongous, but i need to know who *will* rent me a car, not should!! :-) If anyone CAN find one, there is a $10 tip in it for them, i only posted the question at $2 as there may not be an answer!! All the major ones you listed: Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and Thrify clearly state in their Terms and Conditions that you must have held a valid licence for at least 1 year. There must be someone who doesn't require that... PS, That Chrysler is gorgeous! Proably cost £1000 a week though!! |

Hi Tommy, ON this site you can enter car rental in the box under Category and get several pages of rental companies, of course with many repetitions of the big names. You have to click on "next" at the bottom right of each page to see more. http://toronto.areaconnect.ca/ If you are not planning to arrive in Toronto, at least here you can find out if it is at all possible. IF so, then search with "yellow pages" and the city name to find similar sites. I wish you luck, but it has occurred to me that rental car companies may be required to insist on the one year's experience because their insurers have such a clause in their policies. You probably know that the accident record for beginning drivers is significantly higher than the overall record and that insurance premiums for beginners are also higher. Again, good luck, Myoarin |

A great local Canadian company called Discount Car & Truck Rentals will look after you provided you are over 23 and have a valid overseas drivers licence endorsment. Their phone number is 13CARS or access via the international page of the Australian Discount http://www.discountcarrental.com.au |
