Question ID: 546359
My company requires an estimate of hardware required to achieve
acceptable performance within given parameters. The solution should
outline:

- Number of database servers
- Number of application servers
- Hardware configuration of servers (HDD, CPUs, RAM etc)
- Third party software required (apart from that specified in the
parameters e.g. load balancing software)
- Configuration of servers

The solution should be independent of references to particular vendors
e.g. HP, Dell, etc. We anticipate (although may be wrong...) that
this will be a clustered / load balanced solution.

Parameters:

- Web based solution
- Application server will be ColdFusion MX 7 running on MS IIS
- Database will be Oracle 10g
- Two layer architecture (Database layer, Business & Presentation layer)
- Servers will run MS Windows Server 2003
- Proposed solution must be scalable vertically and horizontally
- Initial Database size will be 2GB, with an anticipated growth of 2GB / year
- Lifetime of the system expected to be 10 years
- The database & application server must be able to handle 10
transactions per second
- Acceptable response time is considered to be 300 ms

Thanks in advance!
