I need a list and a very brief bio of black women entertainers,
comedians, movie/tv characters, etc. where her image is that of an
outspoken, strong black woman.

For example:

Actual entertainers past and present like Lil' Kim or Millie Jackson
or even made up black female movie/tv characters. I'm looking to do
further research on famous black women (or characters) who are seen as
outspoken, angry, strong-willed, vulgar, sexy (in a dominant,
intimidating way), shrewd, funny....you get the idea. Basically I need
a diverse list of 20 or so black women throughout the past and present
of pop culture that have made an impact based on their aggressive
style and image.

I hope I'm making sense....

Hello dll12677,

Though pinkfreud has a point, I'll take a leap at this question. I
hope that you'll be charitable to my list, given what pinkfreud has
noted.

I was inspired by finding:

"Hardcore: The Radical Self-Portraiture of Black Female Bodybuilders,"
by Carla Williams, 1998 (in Picturing the Modern Amazon, exhibition
catalog, New York: New Museum of Contemporary Art, 2000)
Carlagirl

I searched on Google for some of the names in that article and came across:

"Notable African Americans"
Fact Monster
http://www.factmonster.com/spot/bhmbios1.html

From that list, and in particular from the lists of actors, musicians,
and literary figures, I believe that the following biographies meet
your criteria. (Note: Some might argue that some of these women's
outspoken, strong roles were in subservient or mainstream contexts.
But others might argue that they were outspoken and strong
nevertheless.)

"Angela Bassett"

"Whoopi Goldberg"

"Nikki Giovanni"

That's 15. Here are five more biographies from MusicStrands (two in

Search strategy --

Searched on Google for combinations of names of outspoken black female
entertainers, and combined their names with other names that I found
as a result.

This sounds like an enjoyable and interesting research project, but it
will probably take several hours to put together a list of 20 women
who meet your requirements, and then find a bio for each person on the
list. At your current price, a Researcher will earn $7.50.

I believe you'll be happier with the results if you either raise your
price or reduce the size of the list.
