Hi,

I am setting up a website where people can become member of and
distribute articles (about internet related stuff, like web hosting,
web tools etc.). I need a name for my website and can't come up with
one myself. I need a name with a "clever meaning". With this I mean
that when you explain the name people can say "Hey, that's clever!".
Like Google for excample. Or at least a bit of a techy name, but one
that should be easy to remember. And please note that the name you
come up with should be free to register.

For the perfect name there will be a nice reward!

Thanks!

Hi,
Will you accept suffixes other than .com?

A .com is preferred, a .net name can be considered if it's really good.

Hi Jay White
regarding your post, your question about finding a domain name that'a
unique catchy and easy to remember, well unfortunately as we all know
most of the good names are taken, or swooped up way back in the early
days of the internet.

When selecting a name for your site, you should first define what type
of business your site is aimed at, webmasters, online tools, articles,
hosting ect.

Most webamasters have been faced with the same dilemma as you when
choosing that ultimate name! :-) there are various domain tools that
will do this for you just do a search on google, or find alternatives
on GoDaddy.com
4WEB-TOOLS.NET 4WEB-TOOLS.INFO are two we thought of in seconds!

Even when you start out it's never a good idea to have a Free domain
or url redirect/sub name ie Snapurl tinyurl ect especially as a new
domain will cost less than big Mac:-) hope that helps

This site might be useful. You can enter a keyword or two, and it will
give you some existing domain names containing the keywords, plus
suggestions for domain names that are not yet registered:

How about www.paperlesspages.net?

I was going to set up a site under this name a few years ago and
didn't get around to it.

Some comments:

- A "clever" name is fine, as long as it is subtle enough. You do not
want a name which every time you hear it sounds like some kind of
cheesy pun.

- I personally would not recommend either of the sites mentioned by
ukwebhosts. The general consensus in the domain world is that it is
not a good idea to use "internetism" abbreviations....so "4" for
"for", "2" for "to", "ur" for "your" etc etc. This can lead to
confusion when recommending via word of mouth, and just seems quite
tacky at times.

- The best way to find a site name is to sit, with a list of words you
think you may want in the domain, and with a thesaurus, and keep
searching until you find a name available.

- Whether you will accept different extensions than .com is entirely
dependant on your target market. For example, a goods selling site
wouldnt usually have an issue with using .co.uk for example, as they
would often only sell to the uk. However, an information site would be
better having .com, as it then has a much broader audience. In my
opinion, having a slightly less than perfect name with .com is better
than the perfect name with .co.uk or .info etc.

Hope this helps.
