Here's a wild guess: It appears that most of the drop down menus have the same origin - the forms return an option value of T3. If they have a common origin, then any error would appear in all of them. Perhaps it is a typo? My best guess as to what is should be is Truk (now called Chuuk) in Micronesia. Pre-1978 it was a "Security Trusteeship" of the United Nations, so it could have been listed as "Truk ST". http://www.visit-fsm.org/visitors/history.html It fits alphabetically. Otherwise, some obscure part of Slovenia? |

Dear jmparelius, The United Arab Emirates, a collection of seven emirates bordering the Arabian Gulf (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras al-Khaimah, Umm al-Qaiwain, and Fujairah) formed in 1971, used to be called the Trucial States. Is the menu just a very outdated country list? See <http://uaeinteract.com/government/>. Carnegie |

The "Trucial States" explanation could be the answer, except that "United Arab Emirates" is typically offered as a choice on the same list. Of course, it's possible that the older name was left on the list in error, and that all the Web sites have a common source for their pull-down menu options, and thus share a common booboo. I predict that this question is going to keep a lot of people awake tonight! |

I lived in Abu Dhabi back when the group of sheikdoms was referred to as the Trucial States; I'm certain this is what your abbreviation refers to. I'd be interested in knowing what country you're in, as the continuing use of "Trucial States" is likely limited to countries that had something to lose (or thought they did, anyway) by the reorganization of the states into the UAE (just as all references to the Persian Gulf in our incoming Time magazines were blacked out when we lived there... countries on the Saudi side of the Gulf insisted it was the "Arabian Gulf."). I'm guessing there's a little denial going on somewhere, but that's *strictly a guess.* Interesting question! |
