I would like to find out how to research a 30+ year old crime. It was a
Vietnam war protest in south east south Dakota or Iowa or possibly
Nebraska. In the early 1970's. a night watch man or maitinence person
was injured.

jh2-ga,

The best place to start research like this would be online searches of
old newspapers for an article about the crime in question.

However, unless you have additional details about the event -- a
person's name, a date or place, the type of crime, and so on -- I fear
it would be almost impossible to find the incident you are asking
about.

If you would like a Google Answers researcher to try and find an
article for you, then please provide whatever additional information
you can on the event.

If, instead, you want to conduct the searches yourself, let me know,
and I'll be glad to answer your question by describing the various
research tools that are available for a task like this.

But bear in mind, based on the information you've provided, it's
extremely unlikely that the incident can be properly identified.

Let me know what you think.

I think this crime was in Vermillion or Souix City. in 1971 or 72. I
think it was a home made bomb. I believe a man was killed. If you can
find any thing on this it would be great. other wise please point me
in the direction i need to start. thank you.

Just to double check, two well-known South Dakota events of the 1970's
were the seige at Wounded Knee in 1973, and the murders of two FBI
agents in 1975.

As far as I know, bombs weren't involved in either of these, but I had
to ask...you're not, by chance, thinking of either of these, are you.

No this would not have been as big as either of those situations.
