11-2000,(win me )INTEL P3 866MG (AMBIOS DATE 8-22-00,sm bois v.2,3)
when no (OBVIOUS)problems exist/ Good Idea?

If it's not broke, don't fix it. This is especially true
with the process of updating a BIOS, which is something
a lot of people seem to have trouble with, and doing it
incorrectly can render your system inaccessible.

Upgrading the BIOS is a notoriously risky process to perform....not
because it is actually risky as such, but because people often do it
wrong, or use the wrong update etc etc. As sublime says, if it isn't
broken, don't fix it. The only reason usually to upgrade the BIOS is
in the case of you buying a new piece of hardware that is incompatible
with the BIOS software. In which case it is probably time to upgrade
the motherboard anyway.
