Want to buy a used car from the East Coast and have it transported
(not driven) to Sunnyvale, California. I have no experience in this
field. Do I use an independent freighter or a large-company
freighter? What resources are available to find a transporter? How
do I find a reputable dealer and what questions should I ask? How do
I insure the car? Can it be dropped off at our house or San Francisco
or San Jose? How do I schedule a pickup and approximately how much
time does it take to go from the East Coast to the West Coast? Is it
practical to ask for the cell number of the driver? What is a
reasonable price range? Any help will be sincerely appreciated!
Thank you! Mike

Mike, I could not find the button on Goggle that would let me just
"Answer" your question so I hope you get it from this comment section.

One year ago I had an automobile shipped from Virginia to Sacramento
which appears to be close to th4e disstance you are looking to have a
vehicle shipped. I deleted the sections/info that I had to use during
that time as I knew I would never have a car shipped that way again.
LOL

The experience was not bad at all. If after reading this you want to
ask me follow-up questions please feel free to do so.

I spend a day on the phone making calls to toll-free numbers answered
by information operators - what appeared to be an unskilled/trained
level in this process LOL. Let me add this real fast here: be patient
because you are going to need it. When you schedule your pick-up and
delivery PLEASE realize that this is an estimate time of pick-up and
an estimated time for delivery. Key word here is estimate.

My vehicle was ready to go on the first day I had sceduled and it
wasn't until, oh, I'd say 5 days later that the vehicle was actually
picked up. It was cool with me though as I was on no timeline, had
other vehicles, so I didd't sweat it.

The vehicle arrived a day late in Sacramento. Please note (they
neglicted to tell me this very important bit of information) that
you will have to get a ride or take a taxi to the place where the
truck pulls over (for me add $50 for the taxi). The truck had broken
down several times, was about 50 years old, and looked generally
unstabled and broken down. Nonetheless, the driver was exceedingly
gracious - my vehicle as far as I could tell was in perfect condition
- so what did I have to bitch about? Not a lot really. But I do
think I am in the minority as I can move and change my schedule so I
was flexible. If you work or will have to depend on someone for a
ride to where the driver may end up - well, that could drive you a
bit crazy LOL. Not me.

Notes:

Above is the contact information that I saved. I shipped a mid-sized
10 year old vehicle. I can't for the life of me remember if it was
moved while covered or in the opening air - if I were a betting man I
would say that it was in the open air!

I have a doc appt in a few minutes so I've got to end this. Please let
me know if you need to ask me anything else. My advice: go online and
do a search ask for referrals, get the lowest price, book it as
they fill up fast

My apologies for not giving you more clear info - I was trying to
hurry so I could leave LOL
