What data elements should be used and when should data be entered to
them, when setting up a product inventory file to keep track of
physical inventory and future inventory based on current physical
inventory, pending additions (orders for more product, but not yet
received) and pending withdrawals (orders received, but not yet
shipped). I've had difficulty keeping track of the Actual Inventory
vs Pending Inventory despite creating fields for Products Ordered and
Products Received and Orders Received and Orders Sent. Perhaps part
of the problem is establishing discipline for entering the data at the
correct time, but it certainly becomes confusing when for example, 100
widgets are ordered, 80 are received, 10 will come in a week and 10
will never arrive. Reference to a good publication or web site will
be appreciated as would knoweldge of a working system.

You might have better luck reposting your query as a software /
database question, rather an an accounting question.
