Hi there,

If you do not recognize an item on your credit report, Equifax is
required by law (under the Fair Credit Reporting Act) to provide you
with the name and address of the company which placed the item in your
file upon request.

To obtain the information, you'll need to dispute the item in your
file.

You may file a dispute online here (you must have a current copy of
your credit report):

Online Investigation Request
https://www.ai.equifax.com/ai/

...or over the phone by calling the toll-free number listed on your
report, or by US Mail:

Make a photocopy of your credit report and highlight, circle,
underline or otherwise clearly mark the item you wish to dispute.

Compose a letter to Equifax, explaining that you do not recognize the
creditor listed and wish to have the creditor's name, address and
telephone number. Include your name, address, telephone number,
Social Security Number, date of birth, your credit file number, and
your signature. Mail this, along with the copy of your report
indicating which item you're disputing, to:

Equifax
P.O. Box 740256
Atlanta, GA 30374-0256

Equifax will then have 30 days to investigate your problem. At the
conclusion of the investigation, they will either remove the item if
they cannot verify the information, or provide you with the name,
address and phone number of the creditor.

For more information about Equifax credit reports:

Equifax Consumer Services

It may also be beneficial to obtain your reports from TransUnion and
Experian as well - each bureau may have completely different
information on file for you, and either or both may have the creditor
more clearly identified within the reports.

To get these reports, contact the other two bureaus:

TransUnion LLC
Consumer Disclosure Center
P.O. Box 1000
Chester, PA 19022
1-800-888-4213
http://www.transunion.com/Personal/PersonalSolutions.jsp

Experian
P.O. Box 2002
Allen, TX 75013
1-888-397-3742
http://www.experian.com/consumer/index.html#

Include in your requests:
    * First, middle, and last name (including Jr., Sr., III)
    * Current address
    * Previous addresses in the past two years, if any
    * Social Security number
    * Date of birth
    * Current employer
    * Phone number
    * Signature
    * Applicable fee

Good luck!

I'm sorry you're unhappy with your answer.

Unfortunately, there is no other way for you to obtain the address and
phone number of your creditor except to contact Equifax in the manner
noted.

Equifax will not release *any* information about *anything* to
*anyone* except the person in whose file the item is contained.

It is a matter of Federal law, designed to protect you from unfair
credit reporting, invasions of personal privacy, identity theft, and
fraud.

Seems like the right answer to me. Maybe marcbk go the rating scale
wrong. Dealing with any of these services is a nightmare.
Keep up the good work Missy.

You need to be extra careful when trying to interpret the information
shown on a credit report. It can get mixed up or look like
gobbledygook and errors do frequently occur. In this case, I think it
is a typo or data that got misplaced or might be in the wrong column.
The term RMSPUR is a computer language abbreviation meaning REPORT
MANAGEMENT SYSTEM so it is not very likely that this would be the name
of a creditor. Anyway, as you were previously advised, you need to
contact Equifax directly to get them to provide you with the name of
the company that reported the $3,000 item.

SINCERELY,

gave you one star.

Hi Bryan,

Thank you, it is indeed frustrating, but in a way I can sympathize.
It's very intimidating to have to actually deal with the people at the
credit agencies (they're awfully unhelpful and occasionally very
rude). I'm sure the user was disappointed to learn that there was no
"angel cure" for that.
